Tuesday,Oct 14, 2008- the day i achieved something which i thought i never would in my life.It started of early morning of Oct 13.I was scheduled for a flight with my instructor at 7.30 am.I expected another normal flight with my instructor doing basic stuffs but i got bit shocked and already started to shiver as i found out that i will be doing solo check on that day.A solo check requires you to fly with an instructor where he examines and determines that you are/arent capable of going for 1st solo.Before the flight he asked me few questions regarding the emergency procedures in case something goes wrong.I prepared myself for the flight unlike any other flights before.My instructor,Capt MD (Mohd Noor),gave a short briefing before flight.He told me that i need make atleast 3 safe landings to enable him to clear me for solo.Took off at about 7.55am,i found the weather hazy with very low visibility.On top of that i screwed up all my landings which pisses my instructor off.After the final landing,he failed my solo check for obvious reasons.I was again programmed next day for solo check at 7.30pm.The next day, i woke up unusually late for my flight.After getting thru the morning chores,i attended the morning roll call and met my instructor.He briefed me again.This time he demanded 4 safe landings from me for him to clear me solo.We took of at about 7.45 am.My 1st 3 landings were good.Even Capt MD praised my landings.It set my hopes high.Only god knows what happened to me during my final landing as i screwed it up.I was like there goes my solo today....The tower instructed us taxi to main apron as my instructor told them that there would be crew change and he is going to send a student for 1st solo.My heart starts to beat 10x times faster and i started sweat like mad.Before he left the aircraft,he told me that the aircraft would be 90kg lighter without him in.It made me giggled for a while but no for long as he wished me good luck n went off.There,for the 1st time in my life i was inside the aircraft alone with the engines running.I took off at about 9.45 am and landed safely 15 minutes later.It was a hard landing but still manageable somehow.The Air traffic controller congratulated me as i picked up Capt MD from main apron and taxied back to academy.He poked fun of me coz i was sweating like nobodys business.I was the 1st one to go solo on that day followed by 7 of my batchmates with their respective instructors.Congratulations ppl.By the way,the title-Academy 11 Sierra is actually the callsign i used to communicate with tower during my solo.FYI the callsign 'Sierra' will be only used once in a lifetime of a pilot which is during their 1st solo.
